QAS use the PAF for its UK data. The PAF is a database of all 26 million UK addresses and is continually updated and maintained by the Royal Mail. The following gives some information on items which do not appear on this file and hence the QAS data.

Business Reply or Freepost Addresses - These addresses are not intended to be stored in people’s databases. They exist only to be used in response to a particular business campaign, often with short-term postcodes that are counted in order to charge the recipient. Each of these organisations will have a separate postcode used for regular mailing that should appear on PAF.

British Forces Post Overseas (BFPO) - All BFPO post is delivered by Royal Mail to one address in the UK for distribution overseas.

Municipal buildings - Buildings such as public toilets, public shelters and electricity substations do not appear on the PAF, as they do not receive mail.

Flats with a shared letterbox – The PAF stores delivery points (letterboxes) and therefore flats in converted premises do not appear individually. The Premises containing them however will be listed.

GIR 0AA - Although a valid postcode, this postcode for Girobank does not appear on PAF. Girobank has other postcodes for the same address.
