What are transports and link programs in relation to QAS for SAP R/3?
Transport contains the table data dictionaries, system settings and the ABAP (SAP GUI/front end coding) code, and should only be loaded by qualified BASIS personnel.
If a customer is upgrading to a later version of SAP ( for example this could be SAP R/3 4.0B to R/3 4.6 C) it is recommended to back-up the transport of table contents , before uploading the new transport. This will avoid the scenario of the table structure being overwritten, and thus having to re-do all the configurations once the screen integrations are completed.
Link Program
Link Programs are the pre–compiled middleware that links SAP R/3 to QAS.
The link programs are written in C. The current shipping version of the link program links SAP R/3 with QAS Pro API 4.02, and the filename is:
qasprow4.exe
Older versions of the link program include:

Business Pro qasprouk.exe
Pro WV qaprowv.exe
Names qanamWV.exe
For ease of installation and configuration, it is preferred to have the link program on the same server as SAP.
