This document discusses how to test a QAS Pro Web installation to ensure it has been installed and configured correctly. This application is useful when trouble-shooting issues with Pro Web.
QAS Pro Web is supplied with a simple test harness, which can be used to verify that you have installed the product correctly and to demonstrate some of the product functionality. The test harness is also known as the WebConsole in Windows or pwctest on Unix.
NOTE:
The Windows test harness must be run from a trusted drive; either a local hard drive or a network directory that has secure status. In order for it to run, it requires the Microsoft .NET framework to be installed.
The test harness is not intended to be used as a commercial application, and only implements a sub-set of the full functionality. It enables you to query which data sets have been installed, to change the data set in use, and to test simple searches to obtain matching addresses and picklists.
Running the Test Harness
On Windows, you must have the Microsoft .NET runtime environment installed. You should run the test harness from the shortcut in the Program Group which was created when you installed Pro Web. On Unix, you should navigate to the apps directory in your Pro Web installation and run “./pwctest”.
Type #Help to list all available operations:

The searching options are listed at the top of the screen: new search, refine, step in, step out and re-display.
The commands are listed underneath the search options. These all begin with ‘#’, and are used mostly to view and change settings. You should enter the command without arguments to view the associated options, or with arguments to select an option. For example, type #Data to view a list of all available countries, or #Data AUS to select AUS as the current data set.
NOTE:
The default data set is GBR.
Changing the Configuration Layout
The configuration layout determines the format of the returned address. The default layout is ( QAS Standard Layout ); you can switch to a different layout using the #Layout command.
1. Type #layout and press Enter. The following screen appears:

2. To switch to a different layout, type #layout again, followed by the required command (for example ‘DataPlus’), and press Enter.
The test harness confirms the new active layout as follows:

3. Type #Quit and press Enter to exit the dialog.

Performing A Simple Search
1. Ensure that the prompt is “Enter command or search”.
Enter a search string, separating each part from the next with a comma, and press Enter. The simple search uses the Default prompt set, and so does not restrict any of the search terms to be a postcode, street, etc. For example (if you are using the Australia country database):
5 Rushton St, WA
This is what the test harness returns:

There are two possible matches, as shown by the Match Count. Note that they are numbered from 0 to 1 in the picklist resulting from this search.
2. Type >0 and press Enter to select the first picklist entry. The full address is returned:
